CHARLESTON, Ill. - The Little Rock men's and women's track and field teams finished the second day of the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championships on Friday. Two OVC Champions were crowned, while two school records fell and thirteen student-athletes qualified for event finals.
Matthew Fox was the first Trojan Champion of the meet winning the Decathlon with a total of 7,126 points to earn ten team points.
Patrick Young placed second with a personal best 6,694 points for eight team points, while
Ethan Sorrels placed third with 6,657 points to complete the sweep and contribute six team points.
Fox placed first in the 110m hurdles with a personal best time of 14.72, second in the discus with a personal best throw of 130-10 (39.89m) to rank him seventh in school records, fifth in the pole vault (13-1.5, 4.00m), first in the javelin (192-9, 58.74m), and sixth in the 1500m in 4:59.9.
Young placed ninth in the 110m hurdles in 16.49, third in the discus (116-6, 35.52m), second in the pole vault with a personal best distance of 14-5.25 (4.40m) to rank him tied for seventh in school records, fourth in the javelin with a personal best throw of 162-0 (49.39m) to rank him fourth in school records, and fifth in the 1500m in 4:55.98.
Sorrels placed second in the 110m hurdles in 15.18, eighth in the discus (90-8, 27.64m), third in the pole vault (13-9.25, 4.20m), sixth in the javelin (151-7, 46.19m), and third in the 1500m in 4:39.16.
In the women's heptathlon,
Carolin Bielert placed second with a personal best score of 4,694 points to rank her second in Little Rock records and to contribute eight points, while
Savannah Graham placed eighth with a personal best mark of 3,077 points to rank her fifth in school records and score one team point.
Bielert placed first in the long jump (18-1.25, 5.52m), fifth in the javelin (96-1, 29.28m), and fourth in the 800m in 2:36.04.
Graham placed eighth in the long jump (14-1, 4.29m), eighth in the javelin (53-6, 16.31m), and sixth in the 800m in 2:38.29.
In the men's high jump,
Deshawn Roberts placed third with a jump of 6-6.75 (2.00m) to contribute six points, while
Falon Short placed fifth recording a jump of 6-6.75 (2.00m) to earn four points. Sorrels placed tied for ninth with a jump of 6-2.75 (1.90m).
Ragen Hodge was the top Trojan finisher in the women's high jump placing third with a distance of 5-5.25 (1.66m) for six points.
Jayden Gilbert placed tied for fourth with a personal best jump of 5-5.25 (1.66m) to rank her tied for sixth in school records and contribute 4.5 points.
Alicia Long placed 17th with a jump of 4-11.5 (1.51m).
In the women's pole vault,
Ludovica Polini placed second with a personal best vault of 12-4.5 (3.77m) to rank her second in school records and contribute eight points.
Brooklyn Marcee placed third with a distance of 11-10.5 (3.62m) to contribute six points.
Aaliyah Mathis was the second Trojan Champion of the meet winning the discus by besting her school record mark with a throw of 164-2 (50.05m) and contributing ten team points.
Alison Stephens placed fourth recording a throw of 156-2 (47.61m) for fourth place and five team points.
Matthew Tyeskie was the top Trojan finisher in the men's 110m hurdles winning the event with a personal best and school record time of 13.94 to become the first Trojan athlete to record a sub 14 second time and qualified for the finals.
Cogan DeRousselle also qualified for the finals with a personal best time of 14.04 for second place, while
John Sanderson qualified for the finals placing seventh in 14.56.
Tyler Moore placed ninth with a time of 14.92.
In the women's 400m prelims,
Talia Palmer placed 11th with a time of 58.39, and
Zoa Adams placed 15th in 59.24.
Kendall Johnson recorded a time of 1:06.31 for 18th place.
Two Trojans qualified for the 400m finals, as
Frankie Grey won the prelims in a personal best time of 46.98 to rank him third in school records, and
Juan Garza placed sixth in 47.93.
Chase Peterson placed 15th recording a time of 49.40.
Landri Schreier won the 100m prelims in 11.87 to qualify for the finals, while
Makayla Jones placed second in 11.94 to also qualify.
Takia Palmer qualified for the finals placed fifth in 12.16.
Maliyah Holland placed 14th in 12.42.
In the men's 100m prelims, three Trojans swept the top spots and qualified for the finals as
Cameron Jackson placed first in 10.53,
Troy McKnight placed second in 10.57, and
Gabriel Torres placed third in 10.69.
Cayla Anthony placed ninth in the women's 800m prelims recording a time of 2:18.74.
Devin Stevens qualified for the finals of the 800m placing third in the prelims with a personal best time of 1:51.62, while
Nicholas Newby also qualified for the finals placing sixth in 1:52.06.
In the men's 3000m steeplechase,
Zach McPhee was the top Trojan finisher placing third with a personal best time of 9:02.47 to contribute six team points.
Josh Beam placed fourth in 9:07.22 for five points, while
Joel Allen placed seventh in 9:27.44 for two team points.
Aaron Soltmann placed tenth recording a time of 9:40.75.
Little Rock continues action at the final day of the OVC Championships tomorrow. The women's shot put, men's javelin, and women's triple jump kick things off at 11 a.m.
