OXFORD, Miss. — The 2025 Outdoor Track & Field season opened this weekend with Little Rock athletes competing at the 2025 Ole Miss Classic in Oxford, Miss. The Trojans earned 20 medal finishes – four gold, five silver, and 11 bronze – and broke a school record during the two-day meet.
Women's Field Events
Alexia Washington and
Aaliyah Mathis earned top finishes in the long jump and discus, respectively. Washington's winning leap covered 6.12 meters (20-01) while Mathis tossed the longest throw of 48.85 meters (160-03).
Layloni Watson took second in the triple jump and
Carolin Bielert was third in the long jump.
Women's Running Events
Takia Palmer took gold in the 100 meters with a time of 11.77 while
Aaliyah Booker won the 400-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 1:02.48.
D'Mari Gray was second in the 400 hurdles and Palmer also finished third in the 200 meters. The 4x100 relay team of
Talia Palmer,
Takia Palmer, Washington and Navaeh Hill finished second and Hill took bronze in the 100 meters.
Abby Machesky and
Cayla Anthony finished 2-3 in the 800 meters.
Men's Field Events
Deshawn Roberts took silver in the high jump while
DJ Young was third.
Matthew Fox and
Falon Short also earned bronze in the javelin and long jump, respectively.
Men's Running Events
Tyler Moore took the spotlight for the men, breaking the Little Rock school record (set by
Frankie Grey in 2024) and winning the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 50.84, which currently leads the nation. The Trojans also earned four bronze medals on the track, including
Chase Peterson (200 meters),
Joel Allen (3000 meters), Moore (110-meter hurdles), and
Gabriel Torres (100 meters).
