Moore, Mathis earn OVC awards after record-breaking weekend

Records are meant to be broken. And in the case of Aaliyah Mathis and Tyler Moore, that means breaking your own marks, which is exactly what they did last weekend, earning both an Athlete of the Week Award from the Ohio Valley Conference on Wednesday.

Moore took the OVC Male Track Athlete of the Week honor for the second straight week, while Mathis was named Female Field Athlete of the Week after each inked new changes to the Little Rock program record book during the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin.

Tyler Moore – Male Track Athlete of the Week
Moore, a junior from Pipe Creek, Texas, broke another school mark in the men's 400-meter hurdles, topping the previous best of 50.94 with a run of 50.82, finishing third in the event. Moore's record run topped the school record he set just a week ago at Ole Miss.

Aaliyah Mathis – Female Field Athlete of the Week
Mathis, a senior from Humble, Texas, returned to her home state and made a big impression, winning the gold medal in the women's shot put while finishing sixth in the discus, breaking her own program records in both events. On Friday, she threw for 15.08 meters (49-5.75) to win the shot put, then followed it with a program-best throw of 50.47 meters (165-07) in the discus on Saturday.
