GULFPORT, Miss. – The Little Rock women's golf team continues its busy and challenging early spring schedule this week, competing in its third tournament in as many weeks when the Trojans tee off at the Great River Cup on Monday at Windance Country Club.
After opening the spring season in Florida two weeks ago and competing against a nationally competitive field in Arizona last week, Little Rock now heads closer to home for the two-day event on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The tournament provides another opportunity for the Trojans to continue building momentum as they prepare for the heart of their Ohio Valley Conference schedule.
"The schedule has been great for us," Little Rock head coach Jenna Birch said. "It has been challenging and is preparing us for OVC play. We are improving each week and played well last week in a field that included some of the top players in the nation. We are looking forward to this tournament and then going home and working on a few things before we get back into competition."
The eight-team field is highlighted by host Louisiana-Monroe, which enters the tournament as the highest-ranked team in the field at No. 71 nationally. The Trojans will also compete against familiar regional opponents, including Arkansas State and Central Arkansas, providing valuable competition against programs they regularly see throughout the season.
"We are familiar with most of the teams in this field and have competed against them before," Birch said. "The key for us is to stay focused on our game, execute our plan, and continue improving each time we step on the course."
Little Rock will look to build on the strong individual performance of Elvira Flodstrom, who delivered a solid showing at last week's Thunderbird Intercollegiate. Flodstrom finished 26th overall and opened the tournament with an even-par round, demonstrating consistency and composure against one of the strongest fields the Trojans have faced this season.
The Trojans have shown steady progress throughout the early spring, gaining valuable experience against top-level competition while continuing to refine their lineup and approach. With each tournament, Little Rock has taken steps forward in consistency, confidence, and overall performance.
The Great River Cup marks an important opportunity for the Trojans to continue that upward trajectory as they prepare for the stretch run toward the conference championship.
Following the tournament, Little Rock will return home to continue preparation and training before resuming competition in a few weeks.
