TUCSON, Ariz. – The Little Rock women's golf team continued to battle against a strong field Monday as play was suspended due to darkness after nearly two rounds of the Thunderbird Intercollegiate at Tucson Country Club.
Two Trojan golfers will complete their final hole Tuesday morning before the start of the final round.
Little Rock is tied for 10th place at 33-over par alongside No. 20 Oklahoma State and Cal Poly in a talented field that includes multiple nationally ranked programs.
"We knew this was going to be tough competition on a challenging course, but we have played well," said Trojans head coach Jenna Birch. "We want to finish strong tomorrow and keep playing well."
Top-ranked Stanford leads the tournament at five-under par, while Baylor sits in second at nine-over.
Individually, Elvira Flodstrom paced the Trojans through two rounds, posting a four-over-par 148.
"Elvira has been really steady for us and did a great job managing the course," Birch said. "She stayed composed, trusted her game, and that consistency set the tone for our lineup."
Lara Martin sits at 14-over and is tied for 59th place, while Eleonore Aernouts is six-over. Cloe Poizac and Nina Pitchsh each have one hole remaining to complete the second round.
"Our players stayed patient and competed on every hole, even as conditions got tough late in the day," Birch said. "That focus is going to matter tomorrow as we finish the round and head into the final day."
The final round is scheduled to begin Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. CST. Golfers who did not finish Monday's round will tee off at 9:15 a.m. to complete their remaining hole.
Monday's temperatures climbed into the mid-80s under sunny skies. Conditions are expected to be slightly cooler Tuesday, with a projected high of 79 degrees.
