Dobbins is the Sun Belt Conference's all-time rebounding leader, and the only player in league history to top the 1,000-rebound plateau. A native of Hot Springs, Ark., Dobbins received the Sun Belt's Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year awards after averaging 14.4 points, 11.4 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game in 1996-97.
Â
He came to Little Rock from Hot Springs High School, where he was named Class 3A most valuable player in 1992-93 after averaging 25.8 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks per game as a senior. He was named to the All-Arkansas First Team by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and was tabbed as one of the Top-150 high school recruits in the nation by recruiting analyst Bob Gibbons.
Â
At Little Rock, Dobbins led the Trojans in rebounds and blocks all four years of his collegiate career. As a junior, he averaged 12.6 points and 8.4 rebounds per game, while shooting 59.9 percent from the field (fourth best in Trojan history), to help the Trojans to a 23-7 campaign, a regular-season conference title, and a trip to the NIT.
Â
He earned his second SBC All-Tournament accolade that year, and was named Sun Belt Player of the Week on Jan. 8, 1996 after a 28-point, 15-rebound performance in an 84-76 win over Western Kentucky. He closed out the 1995-96 season with a 26-point, seven-rebound performance in Little Rock's 86-80 loss to Vanderbilt in the first round of the NIT (March 13, 1996).
Â
The 1996-97 season saw Dobbins average 14.4 points, a Sun Belt-best 11.4 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game. His senior season included a monster 27-point, 20-rebound double-double against South Alabama on Jan. 2, 1997. Dobbins' efforts were rewarded with a spot on the All-Sun Belt Team, as well as the league's Player of the Year award and its inaugural Defensive Player of the Year honor. In addition, Dobbins was named NABC Second Team All-District and All-America Honorable Mention by Basketball Weekly.
Â
He played in 115 games at Little Rock, totaling 1,285 points (11.2 ppg), 1,010 rebounds (8.8 rpg), 158 blocks and a .530 shooting percentage. He is currently ranked in the top-10 of 10 career categories at Little Rock, including placing seventh in points, second in rebounds, second in blocks and sixth in made field goals (502).
Â
Though not all-time school records, his totals for rebounds and blocked shots are the standard for Little Rock at the Division-I level. He also remains the Sun Belt's all-time leading rebounder and is tied for 17th place in league history for blocked shots.
Â
After graduating from Little Rock with a degree in health education, Dobbins signed with the Miami Heat in October of 1997, before spending his professional career playing in the Continental Basketball Association and overseas. He was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1997 CBA Draft by the Rockford Lightning, and was taken with the No. 23 overall pick in the 1997 USBL Draft by Florida.
